Atomstack A70 Max vs Ortur R2

Technical comparison · Diode laser (405–460 nm)

In brief

They do not serve the same job: the A70 Max is a large-bed machine, 850 × 800 mm, programmed through LightBurn or LaserGRBL; the R2 is a 300 × 210 mm desktop engraver that works only with its own app. Price separates them as well: 1300 € against 540 €.

Software notes The system offers excellent versatility in terms of software control, ensuring native compatibility with standard solutions in the maker industry. It fully supports LightBurn, the most popular professional application for laser cutting and engraving management, and LaserGRBL, an open-source alternative ideal for more straightforward operations. Additionally, the machine features wireless connectivity capabilities that allow file transmission and monitoring via a proprietary mobile application, optimizing the workshop workflow. The absence of restrictions tied to proprietary cloud ecosystems ensures complete offline operational continuity, protecting project privacy and ensuring that the machine remains fully functional regardless of local network conditions. The Ortur R2 operates exclusively with Ortur's proprietary mobile and desktop app, offering template-based design, sketch-to-engrave, and material-aware presets. No support for LightBurn, LaserGRBL, or any G-code sender; the control board uses a closed protocol. The built-in color touchscreen allows uploading files via USB for offline, PC-free repetition of the last 8 jobs. This simplifies use but prevents custom power/speed curves or integration with external camera systems.

The differences that matter

  • Software → the A70 Max accepts LightBurn and LaserGRBL; the R2 only its own closed app, with no G-code sender.
  • Work area → 850 × 800 mm against 300 × 210 mm: a panel wider than 30 cm does not fit on the R2.
  • Price → 1300 € against 540 €: the A70 Max costs 760 € more.
  • Footprint → 105.6 × 116.8 cm against 47 × 40 cm: the A70 Max needs a dedicated workstation.

Which one to choose

Choose A70 Max if…

Full panels, signs, or several parts laid out in a single setup. The manufacturer declares cuts up to 25 mm in wood and 30 mm in acrylic: these are rated limits, not everyday work. The trade-off: 760 € more and a footprint of about 106 × 117 cm to find in the shop.

Choose R2 if…

Engraving small objects, up to 300 × 210 mm, with no PC switched on next to it: the touchscreen repeats the last 8 jobs loaded over USB. Footprint of 47 × 40 cm. The trade-off: only the Ortur app, with no LightBurn and no custom power and speed curves.
