Anycubic Kobra X Combo vs Prusa Research MK4S kit

Technical comparison · Fused filament fabrication (FFF/FDM)

In brief

Two Cartesian filament printers with a bed of about 250 mm, for someone who wants a working machine without paying flagship money. Price decides it: the Kobra X Combo costs €230 less, and that buys a bigger bed, more height and multicolor without an add-on module.

Ecosystem
Cloud dependency No No
Software notes Powered by Kobra OS (a Klipper fork), it features Wi-Fi connectivity, vibration compensation, dynamic flow calibration, and a camera with built-in AI detection. The MK4S runs proprietary Prusa firmware based on Marlin, not GRBL. It is managed through PrusaSlicer (with over 180 official profiles included), Simplify3D, or Cura with community profiles. Files are loaded via USB, local network, or PrusaConnect and the Prusa mobile app; it is not compatible with LightBurn or LaserGRBL, being a filament printer. The machine can run fully offline with no cloud dependency, and receives regular firmware updates along with pre-tuned profiles for Prusament materials.

The differences that matter

  • €589 vs €819 → €230 left over for filament and accessories.
  • Bed 260×260 mm and 260 mm tall vs 250×210 mm and 220 mm → a part 250 mm tall fits on the Kobra, not on the MK4S.
  • Multicolor up to 4 colors with no accessory vs up to 5 with one → on the MK4S the extra color costs a module.
  • Bed at 100 °C vs 120 °C → materials that call for a 120 °C bed sit better on the MK4S.

Which one to choose

Choose Kobra X Combo if…

On Monday morning you print a part 250 mm tall or a 260×260 mm tray in four colors without buying anything else; the MK4S stops at 220 mm in height. The firmware is Klipper, with the Anycubic app and camera. The trade-off: the bed heats to 100 °C against the MK4S's 120 °C, and you don't get the tuned Prusament profiles Prusa ships for its own filaments. Temperatures and speeds are manufacturer-declared values.

Choose MK4S kit if…

You print every day with PrusaSlicer, which ships with over 180 official profiles, and want a machine that also runs fully offline, from USB, local network or PrusaConnect. You accept paying €230 more for a 250×210 mm bed and, if you need multicolor, an accessory: with it you reach 5 colors, one more than the Kobra.
