Original Prusa MK4S 3D Printer kit
The MK4S kit at €819 sits between €500 printers with ready-to-use features and closed CoreXY models around €1000. Choosing the kit gets you the loadcell sensor for automatic first-layer calibration and native compatibility with the MMU3 multi-material upgrade, both absent on €500 models like the Bambu Lab A1. Compared with a CORE One kit at €1049, it offers a similar print volume in a bed-slinger format, with a heatbed reaching 120°C; the lack of a built-in enclosure is the trade-off for a lower price. The typical buyer is an experienced hobbyist or professional who regularly prints functional parts in PETG/ASA and wants long-term expandability without paying for full assembly. The main limitation is the open frame, which makes printing ABS difficult without a separate enclosure.

Software
The MK4S runs proprietary Prusa firmware based on Marlin, not GRBL. It is managed through PrusaSlicer (with over 180 official profiles included), Simplify3D, or Cura with community profiles. Files are loaded via USB, local network, or PrusaConnect and the Prusa mobile app; it is not compatible with LightBurn or LaserGRBL, being a filament printer. The machine can run fully offline with no cloud dependency, and receives regular firmware updates along with pre-tuned profiles for Prusament materials.
Reviews from those who use this machine every day will be available in the next version of the platform.
