Anycubic Kobra S1 Max vs Qidi Tech Plus4

Technical comparison · Fused filament fabrication (FFF/FDM)

In brief

The Kobra S1 Max and the Plus4 are both enclosed FDM printers built for technical materials. The trade-off is build volume against software integration: the Kobra S1 Max has a larger bed and taller Z height, the Plus4 runs Klipper natively and handles more colors with its dedicated accessory.

Software notes The firmware runs on a proprietary Kobra OS layer built on top of Klipper; the official slicer is Anycubic Slicer Next, derived from OrcaSlicer, available for Windows and macOS. Third-party OrcaSlicer is also supported. Remote monitoring and control are available via the Anycubic app (iOS/Android) over LAN, with no mandatory cloud connection required for ordinary printing operations. Unlike the Combo version, the ACE 2 Pro module is not included in the box. The machine relies on an architecture based on Klipper firmware, which provides advanced computational performance and native features like input shaping to reduce vibrations during high-speed movements. Users can interface via the integrated 5-inch touchscreen or through the standard Klipper web interface. The recommended official slicing software is QIDI Studio, a program derived from PrusaSlicer and Orca Slicer, optimized to leverage the machine's profiles and proprietary print parameters. However, the system maintains an open approach and is fully compatible with third-party slicers such as Orca Slicer, PrusaSlicer, and Cura, ensuring maximum flexibility in the daily workflow.

The differences that matter

  • Bed and height: 350×350 mm and 350 mm on the Kobra S1 Max versus 305×305 mm and 280 mm on the Plus4 → more room for large parts in one piece.
  • Native Klipper: only on the Plus4 → direct macros and calibration, no proprietary fork.
  • Colors with accessory: up to 16 on the Plus4 versus 4 on the Kobra S1 Max → more headroom for complex multicolor prints.
  • Price: the Kobra S1 Max costs €100 less.

Which one to choose

Choose Kobra S1 Max if…

Pick it for bulky parts: the 350×350 mm bed and 350 mm Z height leave room to print in one piece objects that would need splitting on the Plus4. You give up native Klipper and top out at 4 colors with the dedicated accessory. It also costs €100 less.

See the Kobra S1 Max sheet →

Choose Plus4 if…

Pick it if you already work with Klipper profiles and macros: the native firmware lets you tune print parameters directly, with no proprietary layer in between. With the dedicated accessory it reaches up to 16 colors in the same part, versus 4 on the Kobra S1 Max. Its nozzle, per the manufacturer's declared values, reaches 370°C against 350°C. You pay €100 more and lose bed and height headroom.
