Taig TAIGTurn 3029 Manual Turn Lathe 5C Headstock vs Taig 4019CR CNC Ready Lathe

Technical comparison · Turning (lathe)

In brief

Two Taig lathes with the same footprint, priced €200 apart. The deciding difference is whether you turn by hand or under CNC, and the 4019CR does not include the CNC: it is prepared for motors, but motors, drivers, control box and software are bought separately.

Software notes The 3029MAN is a fully manual lathe with no CNC control or software interface. Spindle speed is selected mechanically via a multi-step belt drive across four ranges (435–1800 RPM); feeds are hand-operated through lead screws fitted with friction-adjustable micrometer dials graduated at 0.001-inch increments. The lathe ships CNC-ready: NEMA 23 motor mounts and ball screws on both X and Z axes are factory-installed, but axis motors, drivers, control box, and software are not included and must be sourced separately. Compatible with common motion-control platforms such as Mach3, Mach4, and LinuxCNC. The ER16 spindle accepts collets up to 3/8 in. (9.5 mm), compatible with the standard ER16 series.

The differences that matter

  • Control → the 3029MAN is fully manual with no interface; the 4019CR has motor mounts and ball screws on X and Z, but no motors, drivers, control box or software.
  • Price → about €1,350 against €1,550: the 4019CR costs €200 more, and a working CNC setup costs more still.
  • Spindle → the 3029MAN has four belt ranges (435–1,800 rpm, manufacturer's stated values); the 4019CR has an ER16 spindle taking collets up to 9.5 mm.

Which one to choose

Choose TAIGTurn 3029 Manual Turn Lathe 5C Headstock if…

you turn one-offs or repairs and are happy working the handwheels: four belt-selected speed ranges from 435 to 1,800 rpm and hand feeds with dials graduated at 0.001 in. No PC or controller is needed, and it costs €200 less. The trade-off is that every pass is done by hand, so ten identical parts mean the same moves ten times.

Choose 4019CR CNC Ready Lathe if…

you repeat the same part and want to run it from G-code with Mach3, Mach4 or LinuxCNC: NEMA 23 motor mounts and ball screws are already fitted on X and Z. It costs €200 more, and the bill does not stop there: motors, drivers, control box and software are extra. The ER16 spindle takes collets up to 9.5 mm.
