Phrozen Sonic Mighty 12K vs Phrozen Sonic Mighty 4K

Technical comparison · Resin 3D printing

In brief

Two resin printers with the same monochrome LCD light source, built for the same job: small, detailed parts. The choice comes down to the XY resolution the maker declares, 19 µm against 52 µm, and a price gap of about €30 (€605 against about €575).

Software notes The machine is compatible with major slicing software on the market, particularly CHITUBOX and Lychee Slicer, natively supporting .CTB and .PRZ formats. It features 8 GB of internal memory and supports file transfer via USB port and Wi-Fi connectivity, allowing a versatile workflow without the requirement to rely on cloud platforms. Direct interaction with the printer is handled via a 5-inch touchscreen that provides a simple and responsive interface for operational control. The device ensures broad compatibility with the main third-party slicing software programs available on the market, including widely used solutions such as ChiTuBox and Lychee Slicer. File management is primarily handled via offline transfer using the USB port located on the front of the chassis, or by utilizing the wired Ethernet network connection for remote monitoring within a local network. There are no restrictions or dependencies on proprietary cloud platforms, allowing users to work in complete autonomy and protect the intellectual property of their print files without requiring an active internet connection during the manufacturing process.

The differences that matter

  • Declared XY resolution 19 µm vs 52 µm → fine details and curves come out with less stair-stepping on the 12K (manufacturer-declared values).
  • Build area 218 × 123 mm vs 200 × 125 mm → the 12K is 18 mm wider, the 4K 2 mm deeper: parts are laid out slightly differently, nothing more.
  • Print speed 70 mm/h vs 80 mm/h → a 100 mm tall part takes roughly ten minutes longer on the 12K.
  • Price €605 vs about €575 → the 12K costs about €30 more.

Which one to choose

Choose Sonic Mighty 12K if…

Tabletop miniatures, jewellery patterns or detailed display pieces printed on a regular basis: the finer XY resolution leaves less stair-stepping on curved surfaces. The trade-off is a price about €30 higher and a slower climb in height, which adds up on tall parts.

Choose Sonic Mighty 4K if…

Prototypes, brackets and functional parts where surface finish is not the point and keeping the outlay down is: it climbs faster and the short side of the plate is 2 mm longer. What you accept is the coarser XY resolution, which shows on curves and small details.
